Malaysia

Malaysia is a Southeast Asian country occupying parts of the Malay Peninsula and the island of Borneo. It's known for its beaches, rainforests and mix of Malay, Chinese, Indian and European cultural influences. The capital, Kuala Lumpur, is home to colonial buildings, busy shopping districts such as Bukit Bintang and skyscrapers such as the iconic, 451m-tall Petronas Twin Towers.

The cost of living in Malaysia is generally low, especially for food, housing, and transportation, making it an affordable option compared to many Western countries. Monthly expenses can range from RM 1,200–2,500 for a student, RM 1,800–3,500 for a working professional, and RM 5,500–8,000 for a family of four. Key costs include rent for a 1-bedroom apartment in the city center (around RM 1,591), a meal at an inexpensive restaurant (about RM 15), and public transport monthly passes (around RM 50).

International students in Malaysia can work part-time for a maximum of 20 hours per week during semester breaks or holidays of more than 7 days, with prior approval from the Department of Immigration. Jobs are restricted to specific industries like restaurants, petrol kiosks, mini-markets, and hotels, but students are not allowed to work as cashiers, singers, musicians, or masseurs. Applications must be made through the educational institution, which will help the student submit the application to the Immigration Department.
